Restaurant Review: Max's Wine Dive

Sooooooo, anyone been to Max's Wine Dive? I have twice in the last week.  I LOVE it.  A week ago Sunday my bestie Missy and I headed there for a casual Sunday evening dinner.  This place is anything but casual.  Their tag line is, "Fried Chicken and Champagne...why the hell not?!?" and there is no truer statement.  The fried chicken is so freaking amazing you don't even need gravy or ranch (which is HUGE in my book because I am a major ranch addict!).  Also, the chicken fried brussels sprouts are delectable.  Their french fries need work. I am not a fan of those.  The mac n cheese is your average truffle oil mac n cheese, so definitely get that too.  Drink the Prosecco, order the fried chicken, and stay there all night friends, it's a wine dive!  I went there last Thursday night, as well, with a huge group of girls.  It is so hilarious that we could get all dolled up to literally PIG OUT.  I've heard this is a chain restaurant so check out the San Antonio, Houston and Austin locations as well.  Not convinced yet? See the photo below...

10 Trends We Can't Wait to Wear in 2013

My favorite magazine (besides Vogue of course) is Lucky.  I have been reading it loyally, every single month since they began publishing in 2000.  Lucky is called "the ultimate shopping guide" and is written in a "voice of a friend in the know."

One of my favorite characteristics of their magazine is actually their online website that has many special features such as additional shopping tips, fashion advice and current trend information!

They recently ran a "10 Trends We Can't Wait to Wear in 2013" article and I wanted to share plus add my spin on the trends:

1. Bold Stripes: anything with stripes. From t-shirts to evening gowns
2. Romantic Ruffles: this trend is here to stay. Ruffle everything!
3. The Smoking Jacket- another trend that is here to stay. Embrace it!!!
4. Fancy Flats- the only excuse to wear flats!
5. The Drop-Waist Dress- must find a flattering way to wear this
6. Crazy Shades- not sure how I feel about this one. Still love my classic Ray Ban aviators!
7. Chokers- all over the Spring runways. Big and Bold my friends!!!
8. Bright Leather- leather is THE fabric of our lives!
9. Leather/Lace combo- this is so sexy. LOVE it.
10. Baggy Bermudas- I don't like this one. I HATE bermudas. I've never seen them worn well. If you have some, take them to Goodwill NOW! (Sorry, Mom!)

Winesday Wednesday's Competition

Has all the family time driven you to drink yet?

We had our big family Christmas Sunday- it was a blast.  But a lot of work, okay, I planned the party, but my lovely Mother actually hosted.  Needless-to-say a big glass of wine was well deserved Sunday evening.

Today's post is more of a competition.  And I know YOU are DYING to play!!! I am a white wine drinker (no chardonnay- strictly Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio).  In fact, I am a LOYAL, VERY LOYAL, enthusiast of the lovely Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio.  HOWEVER, since I got on this "budget" (why does this word come to mind ALL the time?!?) I can no longer drink $25 bottles of wine (or $85 at restaurants) like water.

SO...that's where you come in.  Post your favorite bottle of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio ONLY) under the comments section that is UNDER $15 and I will try ALL of your suggestions.  The winner (who I deem to have the best ((cheap)) wine taste) will win a bottle of wine!

Happy Winesday Wednesday!

What The Beverly Hills Housewives Want For Christmas

After watching last nights' train-wreck of an episode I talked to good ole St. Nick and discussed what each of the housewives want/what they are getting for Christmas.

Brandi
WANTS: money, a husband, a book deal and to ruin every RHOBH's life
NEEDS: a one-way ticket to Syria

Lisa
WANTS: to trademark the word "darling" in an obnoxious british accent (HOW many times did she say that in last night's episode?!?)
NEEDS: a stylist

Kim
WANTS: to act like a middle school girl.  You must have just forgotten to invite your sister to Vegas!
NEEDS: a rubberband to put her hair up while she does Pilates

Kyle
WANTS: to host dinner parties and serve a 4 course meal with drama as the main course
NEEDS: to stop using her pointer finger in middle aged women's faces

Yolanda
WANTS: a hotter body (I feel like this is kinda selfish- share the love!)
NEEDS: to disassociate herself with this show before she gets a terrible reputation

Taylor
WANTS: to be a wall-flower
NEEDS: to be a wall-flower

Adrienne
WANTS: a lawsuit against every person that utters her name
NEEDS: to stop throwing rocks when she lives in a glass house #divorce

Looks like Santa has a lot to work to do!

Look and Cocktail of the Week: Post-College

This weeks' Look and Cocktail of the week has a little post-college theme because that's just about where I am in life- and am learning about this whole new B word- budget.

Look of the Week:
Today's outfit will only cost you a little over $100- brought to you by Forever 21! It would be perfect for Christmas Eve or any Holiday party you still need an outfit for!!!

Leopard Faux Fur Jacket (an even cheaper version than the Zara one I posted here)- $44

Cocktail of the Week:

"The Post College Morgan Wade"
image via google
It's a vodka soda with a lot (I mean a lot) of lemons.  I had to ditch the tonic and cranberry because of the calorie count and the fact that I am trying to loose the college lbs.
When I go into a bar and order this drink- I don't order one lemon, or two, or three. Frankly, I need the whole lemon tree.
(Does this defeat the point?)

Happy Shopping and Drinking!

MUST HAVE ITEM OF THE MOMENT: The Polar Express

"On Christmas Eve, many years ago, I lay quietly in my bed.  I did not rustle the sheets, I breathed slowly and silently. I was listening for a sound I was afraid I'd never hear: the sound of Santa's sleigh bells."

The Polar Express

I'm not talking about the movie my little elves (although I did snuggle up next to my TV with a glass of wine and a wintery candle last night to watch it), I am talking about that classic, I mean classic Christmas book. The movie is a bit scary for my taste (why all the crazy train parts?!?) but the book is truly ah-mazing.  A well deserved Caldecott Metal winner by Chris Van Allsburg.

image via google

EVERY year, I mean probably since I was in the wound, my Dad would read us The Polar Express on Christmas Eve.  It is the best. book. ever.  Hands down. We would shake the bell, and always hear it.  If you believe in Christmas, you can hear the bell. "Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are things we can't see."

I''ll give you a little summary: a skeptical boy gets whisked away to the North Pole via The Polar Express to meet Santa one Christmas Eve.  He is chosen to receive the first gift of Christmas (OMG how cool!) and he chooses one simple bell from Santa's sleigh.  I probably wouldn't have chosen that (I would have asked for the whole sleigh or Louboutins!), but moving on... THEN, it falls out of his robe on the ride home.  BUT never fear- it just happens to appear under the Christmas tree the next morning perfectly wrapped up in a nice little box.  Isn't Santa a gem?!?

The book has beautiful drawings, a sweet, timeless story and a heart-warming message to all.  Order yours by Amazon and have it in time to read on Christmas Eve.  If you are young or old, it's never to late to start a tradition.  And if you are friend with little ones or soon to have little ones (Congrats to Katie!) this is the perfect time to start!

As Mr. C says "Remember, the true spirit of Christmas lies in your heart."

WHAT IS THE BIG SECRET? RHOBH Recap

The "big secret" that Brandi took it upon herself to divulge to the housewives is a mystery to everyone, including yours truly.  At first it was so obvious to me, the big D (divorce that is).  But, once they started mentioning the family and kids a bunch of times, I don't believe that's what it is.  I heard rumors that is has something to do with Adrienne using a surrogate with her kids or something, but that's not a big deal, Camille did it too.  Click on over to WetPaint to see what they have to say.

Some other highlights and thoughts from the last two episodes:
  • I actually cringe at the thought or sight of Brandi.  Why is she so terrible? SO tragically trashy.
  • Are these girls ever embarrassed out in public?  When the f bomb is flying and everyone's screaming at the top of their lungs at some high end restaurant in Ojai, I get second hand embarrassment from my own living room.
  • Brandi: I don't think anyone on the show is kidding you so you can stop asking that question.
  • When Taylor said, "I kinda think that Kim went from one degree of wacky to another degree of wacky" the whole world realized that was the smartest statement to ever come out of her mouth.
  • YOlanda talking about the baby lamb cells injected into her body completely grossed me out. #whattheheckdotheydoinLA
  • The dress that Adrienne wears to her little cookout looks like bad trashy Fredericks of Hollywood lingerie.  The makeup, those silver hoops, the lipstick, it's all reason enough for Paul to divorce her.
  • Paul's back doesn't need a weed wacker, it needs a riding lawnmower.  It is the hairiest, most disgusting thing I've ever seen.  I'd never let a plastic surgeon who wasn't a total babe give me botox. Just sayin'.
  • Dimitri (Camille's boyfriend) got a perm.  A bad perm.
  • Darin (Brandi's date) looks like a used car salesman.  Cheesy. Cheesy. Cheesy.
  • Lisa actually cares about her husband, Ken, which is cute.  Adrienne could have taken a lesson from her.  Looks like she's a day late and a buck short.  (Well probably now a lot of bucks short.)
Until next (dramatic) Monday night...

New Monday Special: Look and Cocktail of the Week

Good Monday Morning to Everyone!

Today marks a special new series I will be doing every Monday: Look and Cocktail of the Week! I got the idea from my BFF Lauren when I was asking her fashionista advice on what to blog about next.  Why not combine my two favorite things in the world: fashion and cocktails?!?

Look of the Week:

Cocktail of the Week:

"The Morgan Wade"

If you went to Georgia, you heard me order this drink a million times.  A vodka tonic with a splash of cranberry and a lime.  It's simple. It's easy.  It's the best thing you've ever tasted.
(substitute soda for tonic for you health freaks)

Happy Shopping and Drinking!!!

By the way, because of last week's series, I wasn't able to give the usual RHOBH recap, and I heard a lot of complaints.  I won't let it happen again, friends.  I am glad it is so popular! I will be back tomorrow with the recap from last week and tonight's episode!
