Lilly Pulitzer was a socialite turned designer, by accident and necessity. She was a Palm Beach Princess of Prints who happened to open a juice stand in 1959. The young heiress needed a dress that would camouflage the stains of orange and grapefruit spills, and thus her long time fashion empire was born. She passed away peacefully yesterday at her Palm Beach estate at the age of 81.
